January 2015 Favorites

I can't believe January is over!  This is the saddest month ending ever, it means all my favorite holidays are officially over, Black Friday, Christmas, New Year's, and my birthday.  Cue the season depression and the anticipation of my favorite season, spring.

My January favorites are filled with makeup products for a quick application, fruity candles, and lots of new music

Jumbo Philosophy Purity Cleanser

The Philosophy Purity Cleanser made it to my list of favorite skincare items for 2014.  Click here to check it out!  This will forever be a favorite of mine, and I have gone through plenty of smaller bottles of this amazing cleanser.  So although the actual cleanser can forever be considered a favorite, this month I am more obsessed with the excessive amount that comes in the jumbo size.  I recently purchased this gigantic bottle from Sephora, and will last me for quite a while.  Although this won't be the best for traveling, I absolutely love the ease of the pump top and the fact that I won't need to repurchase for a long time.

Fake Bake Flawless Self Tanner

I love this self tanner a lot last year.  I used it a lot in the summer to give my self that bronzed summer glow, without the wrinkles and sun burn.  I rediscovered this in December, when I decided I wanted to be bronzed and glowy for New Year's, my birthday, and my company holiday party.  I have tried the St. Tropez lotion, which gives me a subtle glow, but I found that this Fake Bake Flawless Self Tanner gives me a bit more intense, even color.  I also really like the mitt that comes with this, it is more velvety and soft than most mitts, it gives a nice smooth, even application.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette

I love this palette, it has such a great range of colors for highlighting and contouring.  My favorite shades are the Banana and Fawn.  Banana is great for setting under eye concealer, since the yellow is great for concealing and brightening under the eye.  I like Fawn because it is a perfect light tan shade that is perfect for countouring.  Although, with my pale skin I really only use the lighter contouring shade, I like the fact that it comes with a range of colors so you can go a bit more dramatic if you want.  The individual pans also come out, so they can be easily transferred to a magnetic Z-palette for traveling.

Sigma F80 Brush

I recently bought the Sigma F80 brush as part of a set over the holidays.  I had heard so much about this from other bloggers and beauty gurus on YouTube.  But with a brush this expensive, I was aprehensive to shell out the big bucks for a foundation brush.  It was so worth it!  I love using this to apply my foundation, it goes on so evenly and really buffs the product into the skin.  Please ignore the fact that my brush is dirty, it has been put to a lot of use since I got it, and tomorrow is brush cleaning day!

Benefit The Fake Up

I used to use this under eye concealer a ton when I first bought it, but as my collection of concealers grew, it fell the wayside.  I recently rediscovered this and remembered why I loved it in the first place.  It is so hydrating and creamy, but doesn't crease.  I do find that if I use a powder over top, it goes a little bit cakey and heavy, so as long as I avoid the powder I am in love.  It has great coverage which really covers any dark cirlces left over from binge watching episoes of Friends until 2 in the morning.

My Go-To Glam Makeup

Between New Year's, my birthday, and my company holiday party (yes, it was in January) I had to do a lot of glam looks, that needed to last all night, and I needed to do them quickly.  My go-to look ended up being pretty simple, and fast. I think I took maybe 10 minutes to do this look when I was getting ready for my holiday party, and if you have ever seen me get ready, anything under 40 minutes is a miracle.  This look consisted of my regular go-to foundation routine, a simple smokey eye, with some black eyeliner and big lashes, and some super longwearing colorful lipstick.  I mainly used the Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in 'Backstage Bambi', which is a super bright pink.  I loved this because through dinner, and plenty of drinks, I didn't need a touch up.  Although I used a makeup wipe to take of my makeup before bed, I couldn't get this lipstick off.  It was still pretty close to intact when I woke up the next morning, and took some olive oil and some exfoliant to get rid of the final traces of bright pink.  I really want to try some more colors from this line because not having to worry about touching up your lipstick is a great feeling!

When I recreated this look to take these photos, I added a bit more smokey color to my eyes.  The original look was pretty much just black winged eye liner.  I absolutely love this eye look, it would go perfectly with any lip color.  If the neon pink from Kat Von D is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of long wearing liquid lipsticks from different brands!  Some of my favorites are the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, the Sephora Luster Matte Long-Wear Lip Color, and the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick.  I absolutely love the Stila Lipstick in the shade Patina, it is the perfect color to recreate those ever popular Kylie Jenner lip color.

Cranberry Pear Bellini and Peach Bellini Candles

These candles from Bath and Body Works are from what I guess you could consider their 'New Year's' range.  They come out around Christmas and have a buch of bubbly inspiried candles.  I had a mini Cranberry Pear Bellini candle last year, and instantly fell in love.  So this year when I saw the limited edition scents in store, I made sure to stock up!  I also received one as a Christmas gift, which was perfect because it only aded to my stockpile.  I also loved the Peach Bellini candle, both of these are light and fruity, which is a welcomed change from the warm, heavy candles that are usually burned during the holiday season.

This month was full of new music to discover.  I feel like I had to catch up on the new music from December too, since all I pretty much listened too was the Pentatonix Christmas Album for 25 straight days.  My favorite discovery this month was Nick Jonas' new album.  There really weren't any songs on that album that I didnt like, and everyone knows Jealous, but my favorite songs would have to be Wilderness, Chains, Numb, and Santa Barbara.  All of these songs are so different from each other, and each are so amazing in their own way.  Some other favorites from this month include Got It by Marian Hill, Prayer in C by Lilly Wood and the Prick, and The Nights by Avicii.  I have included my playlist from January so you can check out all of my favorite songs this month!  Give them a listen and feel free to leave some of your favorite songs in the comments, I love discovering new music!

Makeup Storage

This was last minute addition in the month of January.  I have been on the hunt for a good set of drawers to organize my makeup.  I know a ton of beauty bloggers use the Alex  drawers from Ikea, but sadly I live nowhere near an Ikea so I have been struggling to find a suitable alternative.  I hit the jackpot the other day on a random trim to Home Goods.  I found these black/white/grey set of drawers that are perfect for organizing and storing my rather large amount of makeup!  Let me know in the comments if you would want to see a more detailed look at how I store my makeup.
