Smashbox Be Legendary Lip Lacquers

'Beet It' and 'Fuchsia'

Smashbox recently released a new line of lip lacquers.  I didn't pay too much attention to these, mainly because I don't like the Smashbox lip glosses, but also because there is less product for a higher price.  I started to hear great reviews on YouTube and other blogs pop up more and more, so I eventually made a trip to Ulta to see what the hype was all about.  I swatched almost all the shades on the back of my hand, but wasn't completely convinced that they were worth the $24.  I decided to pick up two shades, 'Fuschia' and 'Beet It', so that I can really try them out.

I do really like the packaging.  The glass bottles are very high quality and allow you to see the product, but still have a pretty design with the black zig zags.  My only complaint again, is the size.  I do feel like the price, you don't get a ton of product.

I like the applicator wand that comes with this product.  That being said for some reason the Fuchsia shade always seems to come out a bit more messy and I usually need to clean up the edges with a lip brush.  I haven't seemed to have this problem with the Beet It color since it seems to be a bit more sheer.  The applicator is a soft and spongy with a bit of a dip in the middle.  I assume that this is to pick up the product, but I have found that I usually need to wipe a bit off before applying it to my lips.

I wouldn't really consider 'Fuchsia' to be a fuchsia color.  I would describe it as more of a bright, neutral pink.  When I think of fuchsia, I usually think of a bright neon, pink/purple color.  It is a great pink shade that will be a great go to color for any season.  Like I said before, for some reason this shade seems to be a bit more opaque and I often need a lip brush to smooth the edges out.  'Beet It' is what I would consider a plummy purple color.  Of the two colors this one is my favorite, it is a bit more sheer and if you apply just a little the color isn't too overwhelming, but with a bit more product you can go for a more dramatic look.  This color is perfect for fall and winter seasons, and the sheer to dramatic look is great for people who aren't used to a dramatic darker lip.

Overall I really like these lip lacquers!  That being said, I don't think that it is as long lasting as advertised.  Many of the reviews said that they had hours of wear once the shine wore off.  I found that once the shine was gone after about an hour, so was the color.  It did leave a bit of color remaining on the perimeter of my lips, which is never a good look.  My final verdict is that these are pretty great, as long as you bring it with you in your purse and don't mind reapplying throughout the day.
