Perfect Palettes Tag

The Perfect Palettes Tag is a list of 10 questions all about eye shadow palettes.  It ranges from best color payoff, best names, biggest regret, to the most loved.

1. Best Packaging - Urban Decay Electric Palette

I chose this palette for the best packaging because not only is it beautiful, but it has a sturdy plastic case with a magnetic closure.  This makes it easy to clean and safe to travel with.  See my full review of the Electric Palette here.

2. Best Color Payoff - Julep Sweep Eyeshadow Palette - Neutrals

This is the first eye shadow palette I have tried from Julep.  Julep is mainly known for their nail polishes, but i was pleasantly surprised when I received this palette in my monthly subscription box. These shadows are very smooth and highly pigmented, and deliver tons of color with just one swipe.

3. Most Versatile - IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol. 1 Matte

This palette wins most versatile by a mile.  It has 14 matte shades in a wide range of colors, and 1 shimmer shade in 'Transforming Pearl'.  The transforming pearl, is a translucent shimmery powder that turns any of the matte shades into a shimmer.

4. Best for Traveling - Urban Decay Naked

I chose this palette as the best for traveling based on the range of shadows.  It has both matte and shimmer shades, and with the range of colors lets you create natural to dramatic looks.

5. Biggest Regret - Smashbox Wondervision Mega Palette

This palette is my biggest regret mainly because of the packaging.  It has a magnetic closure, but it does not keep the palette closed and is constantly popping open, and since the palette is rather large, it makes it very hard to travel with.  Although there are a a large range of colors and finishes, along with 3 blushes and a bronzer, I feel that I already have most of these colors in my collection and find myself not reaching for this palette as much.

6. Best Color Names - Bare Minerals READY Eyeshadow 8.0 - The Power Neutrals

I love the empowering color names in this Bare Minerals palette.  Unfortunately, I believe this palette was limited edition and has since been discontinued, but most of their eye shadow palettes have clever and cute names.

7. Least Used - Make Up For Ever Blue Sepia Palette

This palette is my least used, mainly because I have most of these colors in my collection.  I have also found that since the brown and neutral shades are a bit on the red side, I don't find them as useful in my everyday eye shadow looks.  That being said, I do love the idea of neutral colors with the pop of blue, and the shadows are very velvety and pigmented.

8. Most Used - Urban Decay Naked Basics

This palette is my most used, because not only can it be used alone to create a simple neutral matte look, but it also perfectly pairs with any palette or single shadow.  I have found that a lot of my palettes or single shadows are shimmery or have lots of glitter.  Now, don't get me wrong, I love a glittery and sparkly look, but a neutral matte shade is necessary for blending.  The Naked Basics palette has two brown shades that are perfect for blending color in the crease, and the lighter shades are good for highlighting the brow bone or inner corner of the eye.

9. Most Loved - Bare Minerals READY Eyeshadow 4.0 - The Afterparty

This eye shadow quad was the first "expensive" eye shadow that I bought.  I used these colors all through college as my go to smokey eye.  I especially like this palette because it has the matte brownish-mauve color that balances out the shimmery blacks and silvers.

10. Desert Island - Lorac Pro Palette

The Desert Island palette is the palette you would choose if you were stranded on an deserted island.  It is the holy grail of palettes.  For me, the obvious choice was the Lorac Pro Palette.  This palette could have easily fit into the most loved, most used, best packaging, best for traveling, most versatile, and best color payoff categories, but I didn't want to pick a palette for more than one category.  This palette is perfect, it has 8 matte shades and 8 shimmer shades that range from light to dark.  It allows you to create simple neutral looks to a dark dramatic smokey eye.  These are some of the best quality shadows that I own, they are smooth and very pigmented.  In addition to great shadows, the packaging is simple and thin, so it barely takes up any space, and with the magnetic closure it is great to travel with.
